One of the most common questions we get asked as hair and makeup professionals is if our brides should have clean or dirty hair on the day of their wedding. There are so many different websites, blogs, and articles supporting both sides of this dilemma, but we always tell our brides that clean hair is the best way to go for their big day! Here is why:

That is the question!

Each person has different and unique hair. Some people have fine hair, some people have coarse hair, some people have different PH balanced hair, some people have short hair or long hair. The list can go on forever! The point is, you want to start with a clean slate. Just like you want to start with a fresh and clean face when putting on makeup, the same is true for your hair.

Hair products, hair spray, dry shampoo, etc, are all designed to give your hair the grit and hold it needs to keep your hairstyle looking perfect for your entire wedding day; no matter what kind of hair you have! By starting with dirty hair and then adding product on top of it, the end result will look more greasy and each hair product you use will not work as effectively.

That being said, here is what you need to do in order to have the best hair day for your wedding: wash and dry your hair before meeting with your hair stylist to get that amazing hairdo! We suggest washing your hair the night before your big day so you are not rushing the morning of your wedding. We also suggest using a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to get all the parabens, dirt, and grime out of your hair.
